Heron California Merlot 1999 - California

CLUB:
S / RO

Lush and exuberant, the 1999 Heron California Merlot makes no effort living up to its reputation of being an ultimate crowd pleaser. Deeply colored and possessing the heavenly scent of plum, summer berries, and subtle spice, this Merlot is what California Merlot should taste like... but rarely does. Packed with seductive charm and loaded with satiny fruit, the 1999 Heron is pure and seamless from start to finish. We often wonder why so many CA producers pour excessive amounts of tartaric acid into their Merlot, seemingly under the presumption that such acidification adds to the wine. Clearly, some vintners have forgotten that wine is the fruit of the vine and a reflection of several factors related such as climate and soil. Our many thanks to Laely Heron for shunning the excesses of acidification and producing an honest California Merlot at a reasonable price. We'd suggest serving the 1999 Heron California Merlot at room temperature. After 10-15 minutes of airing, it will will surely give you all its got.

Verget Chablis White Burgandy 1999 - France

CLUB:
S / WO

Lemony, flinty, cheesy, and oh so very tasty... the 1999 Verget Chablis could be described as a meal in a glass. The Chablis you are about to enjoy is truly what fine, dry white wine is meant to be. Neither flabby or acidic, an ever-amplifying fruity nose coupled with aggressively satisfying flavors in the mid palate make this offering one of the most enjoyable dry whites we've reviewed this year. Our panel noted that the only problem was that its so good, it's hard to put down. And like good red wine, it continued to open as it breathes, revealing more wondrous flavors in each sip. From its characteristic green hue, to its lingering finish, all that has made French Chablis, the only real Chablis, the benchmark by which all other dry whites are measured, is alive and well in this bottle! We recommend serving it moderately chilled. You may consider allowing the wine to open in your glass as well.

Bodega Lurton Malbec Reserva 1999 - Argentina

CLUB:
RO

Just one sip of Argentina's 1999 Bodega Lurton Malbec Reserva is all the evidence you'll need to understand why this lush varietal reigns supreme in South America. It's deep, dark purple robe signals the wines nobility, however it's the flavor and aroma we found most alluring. Note a flamboyant fruitiness mingling with the spice of luscious oak. Decadent and rich, but not flabby, this Malbec simply must be tasted to be believed. Comments from our tasting panel included, "the most pleasurable Malbec I've ever tasted" and "Utterly captivating!" You should serve it at cool room temperature.

Cristom Pinot Gris 1999 - Oregon

CLUB:
WO

A blend of predominately Willamette Valley estates Oregon Pinot Gris and the same varietal from the Celilo Vineyard in Washington, the 1999 Cristom Oregon Washington Pinot Gris has it all. A pale, limpid, straw-colored robe evidences this varietal's connection to Italian Pinot Grigio, yet the complex spice, fruit, and earthy tones in the aroma underscore the grape's Alsatian relation. Pear, melon, dried apple, honeysuckle and even spring sap, are present in the bouquet. The Cristom is nicely balanced and lush on the palate, structured and dry with hints of yeast and anise in the finish. In a word... Wow! We'd suggest serving it cold, but you should allow it to sit a few minutes in the glass.
